Description:

The Department of Plastic Art (DPAR) was the first department established when the College of Fine Arts was founded in 1998–1999. Initially, this department was divided into three distinct branches (painting, sculpture, and ceramics). Currently, it has four majors: painting, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. Since the opening of higher education in our department in the academic year 2004-2005 until the present, 22  master’s degrees and seven doctorates have been obtained. Expert professors in lower and central Iraqi universities, especially the College of Fine Arts of Baghdad University, were invited to teach, supervise, and discuss master’s and doctoral dissertations. At present, our department boasts a team of highly qualified staff, including 13 individuals who have completed their studies abroad and hold advanced degrees such as PhDs and Masters. In addition, during the four years of study, general subjects such as drawing, color, sculpture, graphics design, ceramics, studio, art history, aesthetics, methodology, Kurdology, and the fourth year of research on his practical project are covered.

Department Vision:

Our vision is to establish a department that nurtures capable and qualified professionals with expertise in both theoretical and practical aspects of plastic art, specifically Kurdish art, enabling students to advance and develop the field in a scholarly and scientific manner. Our department strives to select students based on their knowledge of the subject and first-stage experiential skills and interests. Moreover, our department endeavors to educate graduates who can take on leadership roles in various organizations, colleges, institutes, and parties involved in the advancement of Kurdish art.

Department Mission:

The department prepares students for the creation, practice, study, criticism, and teaching of the arts in a context that emphasizes cultural diversity, community engagement, and technical innovation. We affirm our continued commitment to the realization of student potential as the central focus of our teaching as well as preparing graduates to lead the labor market in their fields of expertise as pioneers and producers.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. The graduates will become technical and qualified professional cadres in both theoretical and practical aspects in order to develop the Kurdish plastic art.
  2. They will become professional teachers suitable for teaching art and education to the new generation in schools and institutions of fine arts in the Ministry of Education.
  3. Our graduates will keep up with the demands of the job market and advancements in technology while also promoting innovation and modern ideas in education. They will become professionals who are able to take on important roles in various organizations, colleges, and institutions related to the field of plastic art. Thus contributing to the development and progress of society.

Study Methods:

Plastic art is taught in the department according to the Bologna process, and each academic year consists of two semesters. Both theoretical and practical aspects are used.

Language:

The languages of instruction in the department are Kurdish and English.

Duration:

The department is a four-year study divided into eight semesters, full-time.
