About Us

The University of Sulaimani's School of Fine Arts was founded in 1998-99. CFAR began with the Department of Plastic Art, which consisted of three branches (painting, sculpture, and ceramics). Later, in the academic year 2011-2012, the school established a Department of Music with three branches (Performance, Composition, and Ethnomusicology).   The School's mission is to educate students on both a practical and theoretical level, enhancing their knowledge and skills so that, as artists, they will be able to contribute to the advancement of art after graduating. It also aims to prepare art teachers for other schools.

The College of Fine Arts at the University of Sulaimani is committed to teaching students through fine art, music, and filmmaking using contemporary scientific methods in order to bring Kurdish art, culture, and heritage into contemporary life. The college aspires to function as an active community of learners and educators committed to innovation across all visual arts and design disciplines. Through its educational programmed, the organization seeks to increase public awareness of the local cultural heritage.

The College of Fine Arts prepares students for the creation, practice, study, criticism, and teaching of the arts in a context that emphasizes cultural diversity, community engagement, and technical innovation. We affirm our continued commitment to the realization of student potential as the central focus of our teaching as well as preparing graduates to lead the labor market in their fields of expertise as pioneers and producers.

The goal of the College of Fine Art is to empower a diverse student population to discover their strengths and develop into creative thinkers who, through their professional work as artists, contribute to improving the world.
